The man behind the work

An economist, administrator and Christian leader.

Professor Eghosa Osagie was born on 27 April 1940 to Deacon Otasowie Obaseki-Osagie and Deaconess Grace Sagie, a customary court judge, in Benin City, Edo State. His maternal grandfather was the Reverend Obadiah Emokpae, the first ordained Benin Baptist minister.

His career has united economic scholarship, teaching, national policy and institutional leadership. From NISER and the universities of Ibadan and Jos to NIPSS and Benson Idahosa University, he has worked to connect rigorous economic thinking with Nigeria’s development.

Though retired, he continues to write while serving faithfully as Chaplain of Deaconess Dorcas Erioye Emokpae Chapel. He is married to Mrs Ame Osagie, a former Deputy Registrar at the University of Jos. They have children and grandchildren.

Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Ibadan, then Professor and Head of Economics and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Jos.
